I just called my local grocery stores (including walmart) and they all say they don't take the printed coupons, what has been your experience who takes them and who doesn't?

I am thinking about writing to companies and ask for coupons. Has anyone tried this and received a coupon response? I am worried about spending the postage to get nothing in return.
