Anybody else get harassed about coupon usage?
I'm so angry.Today i went to my local shaws and i'm in there on a daily basis getting my deals and today i decided to go through the self scan cause all thier lines were jam packed.Anyway my shaws has this new remodeling thing done and they have someone monitoring the screen watching everyone's transactions no big deal right?WRONG!!!! I get done doing my transaction and i purchased about 4 items and only paid about 50 cents and i was all proud of myself for doing so good and this lady who was monitoring the screen comes over and demands to see the coupons i used. She called over a manager and i was forced to stand there while they opened the machine to look at my coupons!I was so mad his took about 20 minutes of my time!Everything was fine and coupons were fine and they let me know that because they are having a "coupon problem"in the store they need to check anything that looks like to good of a deal!!!!Why do they encourage couponing and the fact that they double their coupons if they are gonna treat people like this? You would swear that they think the money i save is coming out of their pocket! What is it their business to have to varify my coupons?I swear they hate that i'm there everyday. They all treat me like garbage cause i coupon.I'm so mad.Coupons are legal and legit way of saving money and they act like your robbing the store.I'm so upset i'm thinking of shopping at another shaws 20 minutes away cause now i feel like i'm known as the coupon lady and they will keep bugging me cause i'm there too much. Some of them have even asked me if i have life besides going shopping. Why are people so rude?????

Everyone on this board has to endure this. You will have to endure the store employees that give you a hard time or openly mock you. You will have to endure the friends, family, and neighbors that mock you.
Repeat after me:
It is all worth it.

it's also true that for the few people that use fradulent coupons, or use coupons in a manner that is not legitimate, and we have to pay the price for that.

Yes, but...
Stores promote good deals - such as spending a certain amount and getting a free turkey, catalinas, etc. Yet cashiers and managers are often trained to behave as though they have never seen a coupon. Duh, gee, nope, hey Horace, ever seen one of these?
You know you are really in trouble when Horace silently studies the coupon, moving his lips as he reads.
I have found it is helpful to stop at the customer service desk first and inquire about the store policy, particularly if they double, or are offering a good sale on something. Sometimes a customer service rep will test scan a transaction to see how it rings up.
I have never understood the mentality that if you are taking full advantage of store promotions, legitimate coupons, doubles, etc, and moving the product in accordance with their policies you must be a real con artist, manipulating the system. It says to me that the cashiers have never figured this out for themselves. I have actually had cashiers look at me funny with free trial size coupons, and say "where'd you get those". I usually pick up the Sunday paper they are ringing up and show them.
Gosh.
Coupons in the Sunday paper.
Who knew?

Just grin and bear it Lucile. You will run into coupon nazis throughout your career as a couponer. I have found over the years the best way to deal with those coupon nazis is to be sickning sweet to them and win them over. It takes patience. But in the ned it will pay off for you. I have one lady at a local CVS that dogged me for a little over a year. Then this past October I was hitting that store almost daily. She asked me to show her how to do the ECB deals. I took 1o minutes and taught her how to turn ECBs over. Now whenever I see her she tells me all about the great deals she is finding, and she always has coupons to give me. Since she does resets for the store she gets her hands on all those tearpads before they go out. So being nice to her paid off......................Finally.

Ugh, in a debate with CVS and my district manager about the "one per purchase" language that is on EVERY SINGLE COUPON. I tell them that this is to prevent coupon stacking (2 coupons/1 item) and that it is really meant to say 1 per transaction. I'm waiting for an answer from P&G. Anyone else have manufacturer answers on this question?

If the coupon said 1 per transaction, then the cashiers would turn around and say that each "total" is a transaction, and then we'd really never be able to use more than one! I am happy with the wording as is.
When cashiers comment on how much I save, I like to say "And the BEST thing about coupons is that the store gets the money back from the manufacturer! Isn't that GREAT?" And then smile and thank them.

I had a similar problem at a new Walgreens the other day. I had tons of problems with a Walgreens here a few years ago, and that manager that I really had the issue with is still there, still in charge of his store. I go in and do free deals every time I can while he isn't there, and I have his staff all switched ot my side, they hate him and they love being able to retaliate, lol!!
Anyway, this was a new store that just opened, and the manager was just awful. She tried to refuse the BOGO Glad Spray deal, and I explained it to her. Then she very triumphantly told me "well, I took that one, but I am not taking this one" practically screamed it in my face... I looked at her, and she told me that she would not take a second coupon on the Glade scented oil candle starter kits that were BOGO because I was getting one for free. At that point I left my order, went and picked up my 20 free prints and walked out of the store. I go back tomarrow to get my $25 gift card for filling my son's prescription, and I will use it there, for a computer table, using their $3 off $10 coupon and the gift card, and then I will never shop there again. There are several Walgreens that are really sweet around here, just those two really suck, and since this is a new store and the coupons were for that location only, I have to go there to get the deal tomarrow, and I will relish it. I hope she is there so I can smile at her while I do it...

I know that if you call corporate CVS with managers like this, they usually give you some help. Limiting the number of coupons she takes for great deals like a B1G1 is silly. She doesn't move merchandise that way, and the store is reimbursed by the manufacturer, plus a handling fee. So they actually make money on coupons.
Have you contacted Walgreens customer support about this? Since the manager is continually uncooperative, this might be a good thing to try. There is a place on their website for this here You can also call their number 800-925-4733. Actually, I would try this from the store if there is a problem continually. But try the email section, and mention the store. If the manager is wrong, I am sure that the corporate powers will want to make a correction.
