I have been employed by Big Lots for just over 6 years. I have also worked in a few different stores helping out when needed. I have seen and helped clean up a few real messy stores. The blame for this is the store management. The company has standards in which all stores are to abide by. Part of the problem is the cutting of hours and demand of more productivety. Some employees dont care, no pride in their work and have only one speed- slooow mode. Stocking the store is a very physical job. A lot to do in a short period of time. Some products are never outs and for the most part go up fast and easy. As long as things aren't put where they dont belong. The remainder items have to be worked in and of course the right department, in the right spot. Some employess just throw stock anywhere which makes for a messy store. My store has gone threw some changes as well as managers but on the whole is very organized and is kept very clean. The company has cut employee benifits so we do see a big turn over. That in its self leads to a messy store and over worked employees who do care.
