Default Duane Reade ending rebate program

I just got an e-mail notifying me that DR is ending their one-check-rebate program (similar to Rite-Aid's) after 3/30 & that the next time I use my card a $5 coupon good on my next DR trip will print out.

Default cest la vie

That stinks. DR had a pretty good rebate program. It didn't have many products to offer....but when it did- the limits were crazy- like "limit 6". I remember getting 6 shampoo, 6 conditioner, 6 Freeman Beauty products, and something like 40 free sodas with their rebate program. Oh well.

Here is the email I just got:

"As Duane Reade's One Check Rebate program ends on March, 30th, we'd like to thank you for your participation and for shopping at Duane Reade.

As our way of saying “thanks”, you'll receive a $5 coupon printed on the bottom of your receipt with your next shopping trip to Duane Reade.

Just use your Duane Reade Dollar Reward Club Card that ends in 2968 when you shop and you will get your $5 coupon printed on the bottom of your receipt.

But that won't be the end of the savings you'll receive for shopping at Duane Reade! For each dollar you spend with your Dollar Rewards Club Card, you will earn one point. Earn 100 points and get a $5 coupon printed on the bottom of your receipt! There's no limit to how many $5 coupons you can get from Duane Reade!

To learn more about Dollar Rewards, including our bonus point offers to help you earn your $5 coupons faster and how cardholders can save on tickets to New York area attractions, including Broadway shows and museums, visit duanereade.com or call 1-866-DR-LOYAL (1-866-375-6925)

At Duane Reade, we take being New York's Most Rewarding Drug Store seriously. See for yourself when you pick up your $5 coupon!

Thanks again!
Your friends at Duane Reade"

So it seems like you get $5 coupon for every $100 spent there. Interesting, but now I have absolutely no reason to ever step in DR again. Of course that is until after I get my $5 coupon and spend it, of course!!!

I think that point system is the same one they had before (except some months I think they doubled the point accrual rate). I did like the program, but the high limits never helped b/c they never had much on the shelves. I just hope Rite Aid doesn't follow suit.
