Default Manufacturer's Coupons without barcodes?

My local Albertsons that's closing had 0.5 oz packets of Fresh Gourmet crunchy salad toppings for $0.10 tonight. I bought several because I wanted to try them and each package has a $0.75/1 coupon for the 3.5 oz size packages printed on them. I just looked at them and the coupons have the barcode numbers. But, no actual barcode. Has anyone used a coupon like this before, without hassle? I'm interested because I may buy more packs, if they're tasty, and the coupons say they do not expire. Could be a good coupon to have around.

I don't remember which product I bought that had that...just the numbers, no barcode. They just had to type it in manually. It worked fine.

I bought some of those bags of croutons when my Kroger had them. I paid 25 cents for the small bag of croutons because it had a coupon for 50 cents on the bag which would double and make them free when on sale. I thought 25 cents was a good price to get the "sample" plus the big bag of croutons! The lack of bar code confused every cashier I tried it with, but none refused to take it. I explained that, "the last time I used one she just keyed in the amount" and they all pretty much shrugged and did it.

Yup. They usually just enter them as "vendor coupon". At least at Wallymart they do.

I suppose they really could just enter in the UPC if they were so inclined.

Default Manufacturer's Coupons

I plan pretty much all of our meals around coupons. I try and be careful though because you also want to make sure that you don't overpay when using coupons. If the generic brand is still cheaper even with the coupon on the non-generic then it makes sense to get the generic, that is ofcourse if the generic is not of inferiour quality. I've been finding tons of manufacturer's coupons lately at http://www.capncoupon.com which has really helped out. Thanks for all of the suggestions in this great article, I will certaintly take all of them into consideration.

I don't think you should worry about the barcodes. Maybe the coupon is created that way. The cashiers should accept that and they should know what to do with because I'm pretty sure that they are aware and informed of those issues already. Just tell then where and how you got it. There has got to be other reported cases of missing bar codes in the past that they have also accepted.
