Default new here & wondering what you save...

Since January, I've really been taking another look at where our money goes and becoming more mindful of reducing expenses and living within our means. I'm very committed to having no debts other than our mortgage and car payment so I started using coupons to decrease our spending. I mainly shop at a grocery store that calculates the % of your savings. Mine is currently about 40% but of course I know I can do better. I want to be over 50% by the end of the year. I'm learning how to match the in-store sales with my coupons so that I can hit some good deals (cereal for 1.25 a box) but I think I didn't have enough that I can buy more to really stock up so I know I need to do better there. Other then that, I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any tips on getting from the novice to the proficient level? I'm curious whether other folks calucate your % of savings. Thanks! Monica

When you find forms and coupons in the store, save those (don't grab the pad, but take one or two and save). You might need these later, or you might find someone who wants to trade with you.

It's a good idea to look at have and want lists of members, and start trading!

Where are you located? If we knew which area we could tell you what store(s) might be best.
Also there are a couple of sites that make up lists of what's on sale paired with coupons for different stores - couponmom.com is free and thegrocerygame.com is a paid site. These type of sites are helpful to find free items.

Also getting more than 1 insert is helpful - this way when something is on sale for cheap or free you can really stock up.

funny thing is i never really take the time out to calculate how much i am saving. i tend to just try to keep as much of my money in my pocket as possible which i have been pretty good at doing as of late. Organization is key. This seems pretty strange from someone who is 97% disorganized with her coupons and stockpile in which both are everywhere . but i have messed up where rebates are concerned because i've lost forms or receipts in a sea of cous and it did cost me plenty tho i've made that money back yardselling still i don't want to lose anything so i've created a rebate binder to house the forms and the receipts. What stores do you have because that would be a big help. Like i hav walgreens cvs and rite aid. also target and walmart. Like mcmama said form (rebates) are great. If you live in a state where you do not have to purchase beer or wine to do the wine/beer companies rebates then you can come out ahead plenty! We use to be one of those states and the companies would put out forms for meat, pizza, chips etc and that was the best time! Some products have try me frees on them like i just found dry cleaners secret 1 count with a rebate on it up to 2.79. I also had a $1 coupon on any size so im making $1

several months ago i had a basement flood due to heavy rain and overworked sewer systems and not knowing the basement flooded, i placed a serious amount of my SP in that basement and lost most of it. However like i stated awhile ago GOD has blessed me because i have over 10 times more than what i lost in the basement. I have so much stuff i don't know where to put it which is why i've been buying lots of storage. I have at least

200 bottles dish liquid
5-6 hundred toothbrushes including electric
literally a bunch of bags of candy
maybe over 200 bars soap
hundreds of tubes of toothpaste
tons of packs of kotex from the walgreens FREE register rewards
stocked up on handsoap from the CVS monthly .99 sale so i have alot of that also long story short i have alot of stuff. You'd think i have a store with the amount of stuff i have.

Another key idea is to read the boards to see who's doing what deal. Like one poster posted about earning $40 ECB at CVS if your CVS takes expired cvs cous so she helped us get ECB and i got over $400 from that deal thanks to her. In some way we are all responsible for each other's stockpiles because each deal someone puts out there helps add growth to your stockpile. Before i even started reading freebie boards i did alot on my own and didn't know that i could go to boards and share with other people. But i personally stopped posting as much because of certain people trying to force me into submission of where i got said deals even trying to pick fights with me. Some were even downright rude when i posted my deals. But that was awhile ago and even if you run across people like that don't let them discourage you. you'll fin d cashiers just as nasty when you really start to save.

my general rule with a tearpad of coupons is to take what i need. That doesn't mean take every single tearpad known to man which is what some people tend to do out of greed. Also sometimes you havet to look directly on shelves for rebates because i came across a rebate that had 'blended in' with the products and you wouldn't have even known that a tearpad was there. So i try to keep my eyes wondering about to see if i spot a coupon.

i'm eventually going to take stockpile pictures again.

Hi deb-

Here is a link to an article about how some of our members start with coupons, trading, saving, etc
http://dealsblog.families.com/blog/w...-those-coupons
http://dealsblog.families.com/blog/t...d-refund-forms
http://dealsblog.families.com/blog/printable-coupons

Hop aboard our coupon trains for trading, scout as many coupons as you can from the newspapers and in store displays, find lots of great deals on line. It may seem like a lot now, but after a while, when you have your system down, you will be amazed at how much you save just by keeping after this.
Find printables at Coupons.com and other sites. And don't forget to sign up for good ongoing rebates at local grocery stores, and at CVS, Walmart, and Rite Aid. Drug Fair recently introduce their Cost Cutters program, and this is similiar to the other drug stores mentioned - don't have experience with it yet.

Welcome, I am sure you will find that this is a lot of fun.

Another thing to remember is you can combine a manufacturer's coupon along with a store coupon to get added savings. Also buy more than one Sunday newspaper when they have coupons - you will get soooooooo many more savings versus the 41.50 - $2.00 you spent on the newspaper.

Or get your friends, neighbors to give you their newspaper coupons.

On the day everyone places their newspaper recycle buckets on the curb,
run around and get more free newspaper coupons.
