Have the Register Reward coupons always had "Manufacturers Coupon" written at the top of them? It may not seem like a big deal but that means that you pay tax on that amount because it is not a store coupon. On the other hand you have CVS ExtraBux which is a store coupon and you don't pay tax on it. In TN tax is 9.75%.
Example:
buy $10 of stuff with $10 in extrabux = you pay nothing
buy $10 of stuff with $10 in register rewards = you pay tax on $10, in TN that is $0.975

How do I sign up for the walgreens rewards. My insurance doesn't cover at CVS so I have to go to Walgreeens.

I'm in Texas, and the RRs actually give me tax credit, even when I buy a tax free item (food or many pharmacy items), so I have to be sure to spend extra so the register will accept the RR. They do say manufacturer's coupon....

No need to "sign up"....Walgreens does not have customer cards like CVS. You just have to watch for the Register Rewards deals in the weekly sales flyer or sometimes an advertisement for a current or upcoming reward will print from the catalina machine during a transaction.

Don't by the item if you don't want it and then you won't have to pay the tax. I count it a real blessing to be able to get things so cheap. You can always get your money back and then some, just sell the item in a garage sale. That's what I do with all of the extra stuff I get. My neighbors love to come and see what I have. So many people can't figure out how to do it and they love that I can get them things so cheap. I enjoy it.

I was pointing out that all things being equal the ExtraCare program is better than the Register Rewards program. Sales tax here (TN) is almost 10%, the highest in the nation. I was unaware that tax had to be paid on RR. With the rebates I get the extra 10% by choosing the gift card option thereby covering the tax. There are situations in which the tax would cause me to not purchase a "free" item unless I had a coupon. I have been doing this a long time so I can be choosy. I have huge stockpiles of stuff. Most of the deals that I do I actually get paid money to take things from them. I did 84 of the Kmart/Duracell promotion. I started with a free $20 Kmart GC that I got for filling a prescription that cost $10. Then I just kept using the new GC for the next purchase. I ended up with much more Kmart GC credit than I started with and got a room full of stuff free. I also have a HUGE stockpile of toilet paper that was free except for the tax that I had to pay. I don't mind paying tax on toilet paper when it is free.

I have a question, too - it seems like I read somewhere, maybe this board, that they've stopped letting you roll a RR to another purchase of the same item, at least not to get another RR. For instance the Forti-whatever stuff that's free after RR this week; can I get one, pay $5 for it, get the $5 RR, then turn around and buy another Fort-whatever, and still get another $5 RR? Or will I not get another RR since I paid for the second box with a RR?
