I thought I had bruised my big toe. Well that was, seriously, 3 months ago and my big toe is still black/grey but just on the left side of the toenail. The dog had pounced on my bare foot and her claws were really long, and my toe hurt. That's when it first got grey. I had got a pedicure about a week later and forgot about it. I just took the polish off and It looks the same as I remember it only it doesn't hurt. It surely would have at least spread in 2 1/2 months to the whole toe, right?
Then if it is fungus wouldn't my whole family have it? Do I need a prescription to get rid of it? And where did it come from? My nail salon is very clean!

Sorry I know this is gross, but I have really nice feet if you ignore my left big toe right now. They are one of my best body parts and I take very good care of them so this is a little distressing. I have waited all winter to wear my summer shoes. I won't wear 1/2 of them with out a fresh pedicure let alone fungus on my feet! I hope someone can help!

Toe nails do grow very slowly and if you suffered an injury, there could be blood trapped beneath the nail. Sometime a Dr. will have to drain it as it could be painful or lead to infection...if it is not hurting it is probably fine and will just take a while to repair itself.

Nail fungus usually produces thickening, yellow, flaking nails that sometimes have a bad odor....does not sound like fungus to me....sounds like a lingering result of your energetic dog...

I would take liver failure, but only as a last resort!
I'm starting to feel a little better. I had lost my one big toenail about 6 years ago. It somehow started to come off at the side and my doctor took a drill/sander thing and cut it all the way off. It grew back quite quickly as I recall. So what should I expect the doctor to do if it needs drained?
