Default Wife swap - couponer vs spendaholic

Did anyone see wife swap last night? Except for the stuff about the frugal family's boys being in sports, I wanted to "clip" the spendie a good one. Good grief, no college fund but a tanning bed in her bedroom?

I really liked how they showed how the whole family gets involved in couponing and how it is an accomplishment and it does take work. And I almost fainted when the spendie wanted to shred the coupons. GOOD FOR GEORGE, the husband, for saving that precious notebook. That's months of work and an expense to recap.

I didn't like how they showed stockpiling. They portrayed it as something weird. I wish they had shown more of what was in her stockpile

I did not see it, but I would have loved to! Some of my friends think I am crazy for couponing, others wish they "had that kind of time" (whatever that means, are you trying to say all I do is cut coupons all day long???), and a select few want me to help get them started. Of my friends that I've helped, not one of them has ever complained or ripped up coupons!! I'll be keeping my eyes for a rerun of the show!

If you have time to watch tv, you have time to cut coupons.

If you have time to sit at a soccer game, you have time to clip coupons. If you have time to sit through a track meet, (and that is a lot of waiting around) you have time to clip coupons.

And honestly, if you have time in the morning to spend an hour putting on makeup while your husband gets your kids ready for school like the spendie wife does, you have time to cut coupons.

Me of course, I have time to go to the recycling center and dump all my used cut up inserts - and grab more - and get coke codes too!

I saw most of the show. If cutting coupons saves the family money then who are we to put her down for it? I say horray for coupons! In my opinion, it is wasteful to spend more when we really don't have to!

Spendy wife seemed totally disconnected from reality, like she's still a teenager with an after school job and money doesn't really matter. Sometimes these scenarios seem so bogus I wonder if the people on the show are coached to be weird for TV.

I wondered that too. Seems that george works with a guy who was on the show before. That whole thing with him working construction seemed to be a "setup" for a show that is supposed to be "unscripted".

But with spendy wife, I wonder really why people would put themselves and their family issues on tv. And how do those moody teens feel about it?

I get why the McIntyres did - they knew someone who had, and they are proud of their lifestyle.
