Fewer Young Adults Lacked Health Insurance in 2012

Gallup does polls about all kinds of things. They ask people specific questions, and keep track of the answers. According to Gallup, fewer young adults in the United States lacked health insurance coverage in 2012 than that age group did in previous years. In 2010, a specific provision of the Affordable Care Act went into affect. As of September 23, 2010, young adults who were between the ages of 18 and 26 were able to be covered by their parent’s health insurance policies. Previous to this health reform law, insurers were only allowing parents to include coverage for their children … Continue reading

Oprah Is Calling It Quits

Before you get the hanky out, know that Oprah calling it quits with her highly successful, long running daytime talk show is about like Jay Leno leaving “The Tonight Show.” By the time it actually happens, we will probably have forgotten it is happening or be well over the shock of her leaving. Oprah made the announcement today that she will be ending “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2011, after 25 years on the air. In case you are wondering what impact the end of the show will have, it is currently viewed in 145 countries around the world and … Continue reading

Some of my blogging buddies recently posted their answers a questionnaire called “30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know.” Those posts led me to National Invisible Illness Awareness Week, going on now. 9-9-09 Travel Incentives

When my brother was born on the ninth day of the ninth month at 9:09 a.m. (32 years ago) no one in our family ever considered how auspicious his birthday would be in the year 2009. While it may not be as lucky as 7-7-07, Wednesday’s 9-9-09 is still being celebrated in a big way by the travel industry. Dozens of hotels and resorts are offering matching month-day-year dates promotions. For example, in Atlantic City, the ultra swanky Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is offering $99 room rates ($112.86 with tax) Sunday-Thursday through September 30th, depending on availability. Also, on … Continue reading

Does Your Child Ride the Bus to School?

My baby starts kindergarten in a couple weeks, and up until last week I knew exactly how she was getting there. We live a mere 3.5 miles from my daughter’s school. That’s walking distance in our world. Plus, it’s not all up hill, and she wouldn’t be trudging through snow barefoot to get there. Still, because of logistical factors the decision to drive her in the family car was made and that was that… until last week. That’s when we received a postcard from the bus company detailing when and where our kindergartener should stand if she wanted a free … Continue reading

Anthem is Discontinuing My Health Insurance Policy

Anthem Blue Cross has decided that they are going to “discontinue” the health insurance policy that they sold me about four months ago. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I feel like the company lied to me, and I also feel like this is a form of “bait and switch”. Those of you who have been following my blogging here on the Families.com Insurance blog already know about how hard I’ve struggled to find health affordable health insurance coverage. In 2009, I lost my job as a teachers aide, which meant that I lost my insurance coverage … Continue reading

Nixon Proposed a Comprehensive Health Care Plan

Kaiser Health News posted a blog in 2009 that talks about a Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan that was once proposed by President Richard Nixon. I’ve noticed that this is being passed around the internet right now, shortly before the Supreme Court reveals its ruling regarding the Affordable Care Act. President Barack Obama is not the only President of the United States who showed interest in creating a better health insurance system. Kaiser Health News has a transcription of something similar that was proposed by President Richard Nixon in 1974. It is called “President Richard Nixon’s Special Message to the Congress … Continue reading
